Protecting Our Undocumented Neighbors and Communities
In November 2016, in coordination with local immigrant rights advocates I drafted Olympia’s Sanctuary City Resolution. The resolution passed one month later in December 2016 and guarantees all Olympians are safe and welcome regardless of immigration status.
I was proud to sign-on to Keep Washington Working which prohibits local law enforcement from routinely questioning individuals about immigration status, notifying ICE that a noncitizen is in custody, and detaining someone for civil immigration enforcement.
In the legislature I will work to draw clear lines of separation between immigration enforcement and local and state law enforcement, protect farmworkers and implement the recommendations of the pesticide application safety work group. I also will work to raise standards and increase protections for temporary guest workers and undocumented students.
